This high-quality, 100% silk cord comes pre-threaded with a fine twisted metal needle, making it easier to string beads and explore new design ideas. The attached needle measures approximately 9cm long with a slim 0.2mm diameter. Each card contains over 2 metres of thread. Please Note: Colour Batches Vary
Coloured silk is dyed in small batches, so slight variations in tone may occur from card to card. If colour consistency is important for your project, we recommend ordering enough cards from the same batch where possible. The batch code is shown as part of the SKU and repeated in the product heading to help you match colours accurately.

Important: Pre-Stretch Before Use
Silk has a natural stretch, so it’s essential to pre-stretch before knotting — especially for gemstone malas. If you skip this step, the thread will loosen over time and create visible gaps between beads.

Despite what you may have heard, carded silk does need stretching. Just search YouTube — you’ll find countless tutorials showing how to do it. Why? Because skipping this step often results in sagging threads and loose knots.

To stretch the cord, lightly dampen it with water (avoiding the last 20cm near the needle), then work in sections, pulling firmly and evenly. You’ll know it’s ready when the thread stops giving and feels slightly stiffer.

Once stretched and dry, your knots will hold snug, helping your finished jewellery stay neat and secure — even under the weight of heavier beads.
